When to use Group Maker

Counting off by fours puts the same colleagues together and can leave one group with every manager. Group Maker splits a list of names into balanced groups in a second and respects the rules you care about: keep two people apart, keep a pair together, spread each department across the groups.

For multi-round sessions, Next round builds new groups that avoid repeating pairs. The roster stays in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Paste the list of names, one per line. Add a tag after a comma, such as "Priya, Sales", to balance by it.
  2. Choose how many groups you want, or how big they should be.
  3. Add any keep-apart or keep-together rules, then shuffle.
  4. Copy, print table tents or export to CSV, and use Next round for the next activity.

Questions about Group Maker

Can I keep certain people apart or together?
Yes. Add a pairing rule for any two people, keep together or keep apart, and every shuffle respects it.
Can it balance groups by department or role?
Yes. Add a tag after each name, for example "Priya, Sales", and turn on Balance by tag. Each tag is spread evenly across the groups.
Can I make several rounds without repeating pairs?
Yes. Next round builds new groups that avoid putting the same two people together again, and shows you how many repeated pairs were unavoidable.
Are the names uploaded anywhere?
No. The roster stays in your browser. You can copy, print table tents or export the groups as CSV.
Is Group Maker free?
Yes. Group Maker runs entirely in your browser with no account, no limits and nothing to install.
What happens to the content I put in?
It never leaves your browser. All of the work happens on your machine, no request is made to our server with your content, and nothing is stored on our side.
